Reimagining the In-Store Experience at Walmart
Collaborated with:
1 designer and 1 researcher
The team believed that bringing more joy to in-store discovery could make Store Mode irresistible to shoppers—and in turn, boost adoption. As part of a North Star initiative, I collaborated with a small team of designers to reimagine Walmart’s in-store digital experience—transforming the existing Store Mode into a more intuitive, helpful, and delightful companion for millions of customers shopping in physical stores.
Despite the potential of Store Mode to enhance the in-store experience, 90% of Walmart customers don’t use the app while shopping in-store, and 48% of those who do exit Store Mode just to use the search bar. This behavior reveals a deeper issue: Store Mode is often perceived as a backup tool, not a trusted shopping companion.
This is a great example of design delivering on multiple business priorities.

This idea completely changed how we think about the scanner. I loved how the scanner was repositioned as a doorway, not just a tool.
